ReadyNAS - Upgrading the Memory

A quick and painless walk through to get a little more spunk out of that Beautiful little box.

The ReadyNAS typically comes with 256 MB. After being on the Web interface and noticing it was a bit sluggish, I started looking around for a Memory Upgrade. I found 1GB for $139.00, after comparing prices I figured this wasn't to bad. I picked it up at http://www.aegis.com

It only takes about 10 minutes to change the RAM on the ReadyNAS. You'll need:

  • Phillips <+> Screwdriver
  • The New RAM

First take a look at the back of the ReadyNAS:

You should see four screws one in each corner:

Remove each screw:

You can then remove the side plates by sliding each plate towards the back of the ReadyNAS:

While you've got it opened, I'd go ahead and clean off the dust.

You should now be able to see 4 screws that hold the top plate on:

You're there; you can now see the memory chip:

You should see two metal snaps that hold each side of the RAM;

If you slide the metal snaps away from the RAM, the chip will pop up;

Remove the RAM;

Locate the New RAM; open it up;

Place the RAM, matching the notch to notch;

You should be able to gently press the RAM in and Down; It should snap into place with ease;

Place the Ram you removed in the package that came with the New RAM and save it or resell it ... whatever!

Either way, go ahead and replace the TOP Plate, First, then the two side plates. You're all done. The ReadyNAS will automatically discover the upgraded RAM, no need to make any software changes.

GOOD LUCK!
