Hosts file and Messing with Co-Workers!

Someone sent me a really annoying link;
www.raygoldmodels.com

In order to get my revenge, I decided to edit his Hosts file. From the Hosts file Wiki Page; the hosts file is a computer file used to store information on where to find a node on a computer network.

Now, I know this person is on Flickr on an almost Hourly basis. So I've edited the Hosts file to point from Flickr to www.raygoldmodels.com.

To do this:

  • I opened up a command prompt - Click Start Menu > Run > type CMD.
  • typed nslookup Flickr.com
  • Noted the IP Address: 68.142.214.24
  • typed nslookup raygoldmodels.com
  • Noted the IP Address: 71.18.32.209

I then opened up the Hosts file on his PC, Winnt\system32\drivers\etc\, with Notepad, I added the Entry: 71.18.32.209 <--Tab--> flickr.com

To test that this is working, make sure you save the file, and go back to the command prompt:

  • type ping Flickr.com
  • You should see that the IP address is now showing the address for raygoldmodels.com
  • The Server may not respond to pings, so don't worry about the "Request Times out" message.

You May need to restart any browsers that are opened before the changes take affect, but the next time this person goes to flickr.com It will load the annoying site he sent me. The bitter taste of sweet revenge, HA!
